Barb & Richard’s place in Palgrave – arrive any time after 6:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. start.  We’ll start off with an hour of indoor training – maps, legends, symbols, route choice.  Bring your burning questions!  Then we’ll head outdoors for 30-40 minutes of fun night orienteering near the house.  Snowshoes or winter boots will likely be recommended.  Bring a headlamp or flashlight.  Then we’ll gather back indoors for refreshments by the fire before heading home around 9 p.m.  E-mail Barb at barbrich@ca.inter.net by Tues. Feb. 24 if you’re planning to come.  Further information and directions will be provided to confirmed attendees.  Club members only, please.

This is by far the biggest winter navigation event in Ontario, and it’s loads of fun!  Teams of two head out for 3 hrs with a map that shows about 40 checkpoints worth different values.  Your mission is to find as many flags and collect as many points as you can within the 3-hr time limit, then come back to the Horseshoe Valley Chalet for some hot food and socializing.  There is a popular parent-child category for those with kids under age 12 as of Dec. 31.  The regular entry fee is available until this Saturday at midnight, then small late fees apply.  More Information and Registration.
